Olympic triumph at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' bronze medal for figure skating in a close-fought competition. Witt won an even more close race the following year. Free skates were an unbeatable loss. However, her gold medal came from the performances she made during both compulsory figures (short program) as well as the mandatory figures. Witt is the first figure skater female to have won the same event twice since Sonja Heine.
